The short version
Noa keeps what you learn on your phone. There is no account to create, no tracking, no advertising, and no analytics SDK. The only thing that ever leaves your device is the subject you type when you ask Noa to create a custom topic, and that only happens if you ask for one.
In this version, nothing at all leaves your device
Custom topics are not enabled in the current release. That is the only feature that would ever send anything about you anywhere, so at present Noa holds no identifier for you and transmits nothing about you or what you learn.
The app does ask the App Store whether a subscription is active, which is a request to Apple carrying nothing about you, and it happens whether or not you have ever bought anything. See Purchases below.
The sections below describe how custom topics will work when they are switched on, and this notice will be removed in the release that enables them.
What stays on your device
Everything in the daily loop is stored locally and never sent anywhere:
- The topics you follow and your progress through them
- Your answers, XP, streak, and streak freezes
- Your spaced-repetition schedule
- Your reminder time and whether reminders are on
Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no server-side copy to request or erase, because none was ever made.
What is sent, and when
Custom topics (Noa Plus). When you ask Noa to create a topic, the subject you typed is sent to our server, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude API to write the lessons and questions. We keep the request so the generated topic can be reviewed for accuracy before it is ever offered to anyone else, and so we can count it against your monthly allowance. We store the subject text, the resulting topic, the number of tokens used, and the time of the request.
An anonymous identity. The first time you create a custom topic, Noa asks our server for an anonymous identifier. It exists only so a generated topic has an owner and so the monthly allowance can be enforced. It is not linked to your name, your email, your Apple ID, or your device, and we cannot use it to identify you.
If you never create a custom topic, Noa never contacts our server at all.
Purchases
Noa Plus subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details, billing address, or Apple ID. Noa asks the App Store whether your subscription is active and nothing else. Apple's own privacy policy governs the transaction.
Notifications
The daily reminder is scheduled on your device by iOS. It is a local notification, not a push notification: no reminder passes through our servers, and we do not have a push token for your device.
What we do not do
- We do not use advertising or analytics SDKs.
- We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not request permission
to.
- We do not sell or share personal information.
- We do not build a profile of you.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Your content and review
A topic you generate is private to you. It is not shown to other users. It does enter an internal queue where we may read it to check the facts, because a learning app that teaches something confidently wrong is the failure that matters most here. If a generated topic is accurate and useful enough to add to the public catalog, we may rewrite and publish it as ordinary catalog content with no reference to you or your request.
Deleting your data
Delete the app to remove everything held on your device. To have generated topics and their request records deleted from our server, email contactnoalearning@gmail.com from the address you would like us to reply to, and describe the topics you created. Because the identifier is anonymous, we may need you to tell us enough about the requests to find them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the app will say so before the change takes effect.
